Baghdad: The commission is discussing the conditions of central prisons with the Iraqi Correctional Service. A team from the High Commission for Human Rights – Baghdad Office visited the Iraqi Correctional Department at the Ministry of Justice to assess the conditions of central prisons and identify the most significant challenges they face.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the team followed up on several humanitarian appeals received by the Baghdad office. The Director General expressed his willingness to address and resolve these issues in accordance with the provisions of the Inmates and Detainees Reform Law No. (14) of 2018.
This meeting is part of the Commission’s ongoing monitoring and follow-up duties regarding human rights conditions in correctional institutions. It aims to strengthen coordination with relevant authorities to protect the rights of inmates and improve detention conditions.
