Baghdad: The National Security Service announced the seizure of hundreds of mobile phones inside prisons and the arrest of a major drug dealer and his cell.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Service reported that its detachments, in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice’s Iraqi Correctional Department detachments, conducted a comprehensive inspection campaign across several Iraqi prisons. This operation led to the discovery of 651 mobile phones and 314 SIM cards concealed in various locations within the targeted correctional facilities.
The statement highlighted that this initiative is part of ongoing efforts to enhance security within prisons and prevent the entry of contraband. Regular patrols and inspections are being coordinated with the Ministry of Justice to bolster security measures within these facilities.
In a related development, as part of efforts to dismantle organized crime networks, the Service’s detachments in Basra Governorate successfully apprehended the primary individual responsible for smuggling drugs into prisons. Along with him, nine other suspects were arrested, revealing a cell connected to a previously detained group.
