Minister of Justice Announces Law Amendment to Enhance Protection for Minors


Baghdad: Minister of Justice Khalid Shawani affirmed that amending the law on the care of minors will contribute significantly to ensuring justice for the segment of minors covered by its provisions. The Ministry of Justice stated in a press release that Minister of Justice Dr. Khalid Shawani conducted a field visit to the Directorate of Minor Affairs in Karkh to review the work being done and the services provided to citizens, and to monitor the mechanisms for processing their transactions. He emphasized that amending the Minor Affairs Law represents an important step in strengthening the legal protection of this segment of society and ensuring justice for minors covered by its provisions.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, during his tour of the directorate, the Minister affirmed that the Ministry gives special attention to the Minor Affairs departments, given their legal and humanitarian responsibility to protect, preserve, and manage the funds and property of minors within legal frameworks, thus guaranteeing their rights and achieving their best interests.



Shawani indicated that working on developing legislation related to the care of minors aims to address the challenges facing this segment of society and ensure they receive their rights more effectively. He explained that the amendment to the law, which has been sent to the Iraqi Parliament and has undergone its first reading, will significantly contribute to achieving justice and strengthening the legal protection of minors.
