Diwaniyah: An investigative council has been formed to look into the actions of an officer and his associates following the self-immolation of a detainee in Diwaniyah. The Diwaniyah Governorate Police have initiated an investigative committee following the incident involving a 26-year-old detainee.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Diwaniyah Police Command released a statement detailing the events of August 13, 2026. The detainee, who was held in the Family and Child Protection Department, faced several charges filed by his family, including assaulting his mother, brother, and sister. He set himself on fire in the sunbathing area after collecting garbage, igniting it, and throwing it onto parts of his body.

The Police Command’s statement further revealed that an investigative committee has been established. The duty officer along with several other personnel have been detained to assess the incident’s circumstances and identify those responsible. This is to ensure that appropriate legal actions are taken against the individuals involved.
