Baghdad: Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Haibat al-Halbousi, emphasized to his Iranian counterpart, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, on Wednesday, the importance of activating friendship committees and strengthening parliamentary diplomacy between Iraq and Iran. He also called for granting Iraq special authority for oil exports via the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Iraqi News Agency, the Speaker’s Media Office stated in a press release that “Speaker of Parliament, Haibat al-Halbousi, received the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, and his accompanying delegation. Discussions were held regarding ways to enhance bilateral relations, activate friendship committees, and develop cooperation and joint coordination between the two parliaments.”
The statement further highlighted that the Speaker of Parliament stressed “the importance of activating friendship committees, strengthening parliamentary diplomacy, and expanding areas of cooperation to serve the interests of the two neighboring nations.”
Al-Halbousi pointed out the significant impact of regional conditions and developments on Iraq, emphasizing the need for “taking into account the nature of the relations that bind Iraq and the Islamic Republic of Iran.” He advocated for Iraq to receive special consideration regarding oil exports through the Strait of Hormuz, aiming to preserve Iraq’s economic interests.
