Baghdad: The Minister of Interior of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), Rebar Ahmed, confirmed on Thursday that the KRG has demanded an explanation from the Iranian side regarding the attack on the office of the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region and the residence of the head of the intelligence agency.

According to Iraqi News Agency, Ahmed stated in a press conference held in Erbil that “the Kurdistan Region has been subjected to several drone attacks,” noting that attacks targeted Peshmerga forces’ headquarters, resulting in martyrs and wounded, and that civilians and civilian areas were also targeted.

“The latest attack was a drone strike targeting the office of the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region and the residence of the head of the intelligence agency,” Ahmed added. He confirmed that “the family and children of the head of the intelligence agency were present at the targeted location.”

“We have requested clarification from Iran and hope they will provide a convincing answer. We are also in contact with the Iraqi government. Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Mohsen al-Ahmad and security officials contacted us from the very first day and affirmed their sympathy and support for the Kurdistan Region. Coordination is underway to discuss this matter jointly with Iran and the federal government,” the Minister stated.

He further noted, “This issue was also raised during Iranian Parliament Speaker Ghalibaf’s visit to Baghdad yesterday,” indicating that the region is eagerly awaiting an official explanation from Iran regarding the attacks.
