Workshop in Basra Highlights the Role of Women Leaders in Peacebuilding

Basra: A workshop in Basra has called for the strengthening of the role of women leaders in peacebuilding through religious, social, and political dialogue within society. This initiative aims to empower women leaders and enhance their involvement in creating a peaceful societal framework.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the workshop was organized by the Al-Nour Gate for Sustainable Development Organization, with support from the Iraqi Al-Firdaws Association. It was attended by numerous women leaders and representatives from women’s affairs departments in governmental institutions in Basra Governorate. The gathering served as a platform to discuss the pivotal role of women in decision-making processes across various state institutions.

Inas Ismail Al-Jubouri, Director of the Women, Family, and Child Affairs Department at the Basra Governorate Office, highlighted the necessity of actively involving women in decision-making across all state institutions and departments. She underscored the importance of encouraging and motivating women to complete the roadmap for their rights towards a better future. Al-Jubouri addressed the prominent challenges and obstacles women face in their administrative roles and emphasized the need to overcome these hurdles to create an environment based on fair competition and equal opportunities.

Al-Jubouri also pointed out that Iraqi legislation does not discriminate between the sexes in terms of their rights and responsibilities. She discussed the adoption of a strategy aimed at providing a safe and stimulating environment and linking learning outcomes with the requirements of sustainable development. This strategy particularly focuses on women’s academic specializations relevant to the actual needs of the labor market and modern technologies.

Furthermore, the workshop highlighted the launch of vocational training programs, support for entrepreneurship, and financial and administrative guidance for women seeking economic independence. These initiatives are designed to empower women and enable them to contribute more effectively to society.
