Atraushi Calls for Official National Day Honoring Victims of Terrorism


Baghdad: Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Ferhad Atraushi called on Friday for the International Day of Remembrance and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism to be officially designated as an Iraqi national day, covering all those affected by terrorism across Iraq.



According to Iraqi News Agency, the media office of the Deputy Speaker stated that on the International Day of Remembrance and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism, observed on August 21 and established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2017, Deputy Speaker Ferhad Amin Atraushi emphasized that terrorism, in all its forms and manifestations, poses a serious threat to peace, security, and stability. He highlighted the need for concerted national, regional, and international efforts to confront this scourge, as well as the importance of cutting off its sources of funding and extremist ideology.



The statement further mentioned that on this global occasion, the Deputy Speaker called for the day to be officially designated as an Iraqi national day under the name ‘National Day for Victims of Terrorism,’ encompassing all those affected across Iraq.



Atraushi urged relevant ministries and authorities in the federal government to enhance efforts to support the families and relatives of victims, safeguard their rights, alleviate their suffering, provide comprehensive care, and ensure justice through legislation and government decisions.



He paid tribute to the souls of all victims of terrorism and expressed solidarity with survivors. He noted that commemorating this occasion is a message of loyalty to the victims and an opportunity to raise awareness of the dangers of terrorism, strengthen the values of tolerance, coexistence, and peace, and work toward a prosperous future free from violence and extremism.
