Baghdad: Deputy Speaker of Parliament Farhad Amin al-Atroushi has urged the designation of the International Day of Remembrance of and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism as an official Iraqi national day to honor all those affected by terrorism.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, on the International Day of Remembrance of and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism, commemorated on August 21 and established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2017, Al-Atroushi highlighted the significant threat terrorism poses to peace, security, and stability. He emphasized the need for comprehensive national, regional, and international efforts to eliminate terrorism’s funding and counter its extremist ideology.

Al-Atroushi proposed naming the day “National Day of Victims of Terrorism,” to include all those affected across Iraq. He called on relevant ministries and federal authorities to enhance their support for victims’ families, protect their rights, alleviate their suffering, and ensure complete care and redress through legislative and governmental actions.

In a solemn tribute, Al-Atroushi honored the victims of terrorism and expressed his solidarity with survivors. He stated that this commemoration serves as a message of loyalty to the victims and an opportunity to raise awareness about the dangers of terrorism, promoting values of tolerance, coexistence, and peace in pursuit of a future without violence and extremism.
