Baghdad: Iraq is in dire need of preserving its security and sovereignty and not allowing itself to be dragged into conflicts that do not serve its people and interests, stated Speaker of Parliament Haibat al-Halbousi in a recent address.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Halbousi highlighted the challenging circumstances and ongoing tensions in the region, underscoring the necessity for Iraq to exercise wisdom and unity. He emphasized the importance of maintaining security and sovereignty, warning against involvement in conflicts that do not benefit the Iraqi populace.

During a speech at the celebration of the Prophet’s birthday, Al-Halbousi reflected on the heavy toll Iraq has endured due to terrorism, extremism, and division. He praised the unity and sacrifices of the Iraqi people during difficult times in the nation’s modern history.

Al-Halbousi further articulated the responsibility of transitioning from crisis management to state-building, emphasizing the need to enhance governmental institutions and improve services for citizens. He stressed that it is the duty of the state and its constitutional institutions to protect Iraq’s diversity, ensure the rights and freedoms of all citizens, and base the citizen-state relationship on citizenship and the rule of law.

The Speaker also highlighted the importance of legislation that fosters societal cohesion and supports stability, advocating for a continued legislative and oversight role in addressing issues affecting citizens’ lives.
