Baghdad: Ammar al-Hakim, head of the National State Forces Alliance, has called for a national approach to disarmament, emphasizing the importance of dialogue, understanding, and a gradual process in ensuring that weapons are monopolized by the state. His statements were made during a Sunni Endowment celebration of the Prophet’s birthday.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Hakim highlighted that controlling weapons under state authority is essential for completing the process of state-building and maintaining sovereignty. He emphasized that while pluralism exists, it should not conflict with the unity of the state, and national affiliations should coexist with other affiliations. Al-Hakim underlined the importance of the law serving as a binding and governing reference for all citizens without exception.

He further stressed the dangers of sectarianism and hate speech, urging that such divisive elements must not be allowed to disrupt the unity of the Iraqi people. Al-Hakim concluded his address by asserting that the responsibilities of war and peace, as well as the use of force, should rest solely with the state, reinforcing the need for a cohesive national policy on disarmament.
