Baghdad: Government spokesman Haider al-Aboudi revealed developments in the government dialogue regarding the issue of restricting weapons to the state, confirming that “the process has made significant progress.” He indicated that half of the factions have joined the weapons restriction process and are responding positively to the proposed mechanisms, while the other factions remain hesitant about the timing and mechanisms to be adopted after September 30th.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Aboudi stated: “The government is moving forward with its ministerial program, and the dialogue mechanisms regarding restricting weapons to the state have reached an advanced stage, the results of which will benefit the Iraqi people.” He added: “The total number of factions is six; half of them have joined the weapons restriction process and responded positively to the proposed data and mechanisms, while the other factions have concerns about the timing and mechanisms after September 30th.”

He explained: “Those involved in the dialogue are currently working to overcome the obstacles of this concern and reservation through advanced dialogue based on the principles of state sovereignty and the interests of the people, in order to agree on mechanisms that guarantee them and the state full sovereignty, while also ensuring the interests of the state for all.”

Regarding the fate of uncontrolled weapons, Al-Aboudi affirmed that “the government’s approach includes all weapons that are not subject to the authority of the constitution and the law.”
