Baghdad: The Federal Intelligence and Investigations Agency of the Ministry of Interior announced the seizure of more than half a million pieces of untested pharmaceuticals and medical supplies in Baghdad.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry of Interior stated in a press release that its specialized units, following meticulous intelligence monitoring and surveillance, apprehended several suspects and seized smuggled and untested human medicines in their possession, after obtaining the necessary judicial approvals.

The statement added that through initial investigations with the suspects and the identification of the locations where the medicines were stored, an intelligence team was formed in coordination with the Baghdad Rusafa Health Directorate/Inspection Department and the Pharmacists Syndicate. The team, guided by the suspects, proceeded to the Saadoun Park area in Baghdad, raided and searched a warehouse, and the operation resulted in the seizure of 428,794 pieces of smuggled and untested human medicines, as well as 90,350 pieces of smuggled and untested medical supplies, bringing the total number of seized items to 519,144.

She added that the necessary legal measures were taken against the accused and they were referred to the competent authorities.

The Ministry of Interior affirmed the continuation of its operations to pursue all those who attempt to trade in smuggled medicines and medical supplies, given the direct threat they pose to public health and safety.
