Baghdad: The Baghdad Operations Command has firmly denied allegations circulating on social media and in some news reports that security forces attacked protesters in front of the Ministry of Oil.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Command released a statement addressing the claims. The statement clarified that the security forces, specifically within the Law Enforcement Units, were tasked with protecting the peaceful demonstrations initiated by graduates from Dhi Qar Governorate. These protests began on the morning of Monday, August 24, 2026, and took place in front of the Ministry of Finance in the Rusafa district, not the Ministry of Oil.

The Command emphasized that thorough searches were conducted on individuals, and intersections were secured to ensure the highest level of safety for the demonstrators. The statement underlined the commitment to human rights, the preservation of public and private property, and the maintenance of public order during the demonstrations.
