Baghdad: First Deputy Speaker of Iraq’s Council of Representatives, Adnan Fayhan Al-Dulaimi, emphasized the importance of enhancing parliamentary relations with Austria and increasing the involvement of Austrian companies in strategic projects within Iraq during a meeting on Tuesday.

According to Iraqi News Agency, the media office of the First Deputy Speaker reported that Fayhan met with Austria’s ambassador to Iraq, Axel Wech, at his office. During the meeting, Fayhan extended his congratulations to the ambassador on his new role and expressed his hopes for a successful diplomatic mission in Baghdad.

Discussions between the two parties focused on strengthening bilateral ties and reactivating meetings of the Iraqi-Austrian committee under the existing economic and technical cooperation agreement. A key point of the discussion was the proposal to establish a direct air route between Baghdad and Vienna, along with the necessity of passing legislation for an air transport agreement to foster broader cooperation, particularly in economic sectors.

Furthermore, both representatives highlighted the importance of developing parliamentary relations and expanding the presence of Austrian businesses in Iraq’s strategic initiatives. They also explored possibilities for cultural and developmental twinning programs, aiming to leverage Austrian expertise in areas such as water management, combating desertification, and renewable energy.
