Baghdad: The First Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Adnan Faihan al-Dulaimi, engaged in discussions with Austrian Ambassador Axel Fich regarding the establishment of a direct air route between Baghdad and Vienna. A statement from his media office highlighted that Faihan hosted Ambassador Fich, extending congratulations on his new diplomatic role in Baghdad and expressing well wishes for his success.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, during their meeting, Faihan and Ambassador Fich explored avenues to enhance bilateral relations, including the activation of the Iraqi-Austrian Joint Committee under the Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement. A key focus was the importance of establishing a direct air route between the two capitals and progressing with the legislation of the Air Transport Agreement, which aims to broaden cooperative opportunities, especially in the economic sector.

The statement further revealed that both parties stressed the importance of strengthening parliamentary relations and increasing the presence of Austrian companies in strategic projects within Iraq. They also discussed the potential for launching cultural and development twinning programs, leveraging Austrian expertise in areas such as water management, combating desertification, and renewable energy.
