Ankara: The Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) has issued a warning against alleged fabricated leaks purportedly detailing discussions between party leader Abdullah -calan and other party leaders in Imrali prison. The PKK has stated that the leaked documents are not genuine and urged the public to dismiss them.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the PKK has claimed that the supposed transcripts of meetings, which are circulating on digital media, contain false information and are a part of a deliberate misinformation campaign. The party emphasized that any authentic communication regarding meetings with -calan is officially disclosed by a delegation from the Peoples’ Democracy and Equality Party (DEVA).
The Kurdish party highlighted the suspicious timing of the leaks, which followed a legislative ban imposed on August 10. The PKK believes this timing indicates an underlying agenda to disrupt peace efforts and provoke tension. The party’s statement accused opponents of peace of employing deceitful tactics during the parliamentary debates on the recently passed law.
The PKK reiterated that only statements verified and issued by their official delegation should be considered credible. The leaks, which began circulating on August 17, reportedly detail meetings dated July 20 and August 2, as per the Turkish website Zaman.
Zaman reported that one of the leaks, titled ‘Memoirs of the Meeting 02-08-2026,’ claims to document a meeting between -calan, a Kurdish party delegation, and Turkish state officials. However, the Kurdish party has dismissed these texts, stating that they lack a clear context and have been manipulated with added or omitted phrases.
The purported memoranda suggest significant ideological shifts within the PKK’s framework, attributing statements to -calan that advocate for compliance with a new legal framework and propose a movement towards a “democratic republic.” The documents also discuss potential political integration within the Turkish Republic, deviating from the party’s historical independent stance.
Additionally, the leaks reference a proposed oversight committee in the Turkish parliament, with -calan allegedly calling for the participation of the opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) to ensure transparency in the process.
These developments arise in the wake of the Turkish parliament’s approval of the “National Solidarity and Social Integration” bill on August 10, which mandates the disarmament of the PKK. The bill passed with a significant majority, signaling a decisive move by the Turkish government against the PKK, which is designated as a terrorist organization in Turkey.
