Baghdad: On the anniversary of the Anfal campaigns against the Kurdish people in the Bahdinan region, Deputy Speaker of Parliament Farhad al-Atroushi called for justice for the families of victims of the Anfal campaigns.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Deputy Speaker’s media office stated, “On the 38th anniversary of the infamous Anfal operations in the Bahdinan region against the people of Kurdistan, al-Atroushi recalled one of the most painful chapters in modern Iraqi history, which represented the final stage of the genocidal campaigns perpetrated by the former regime against our Kurdish people. These campaigns included the destruction of villages, the use of internationally prohibited weapons, and the disappearance of tens of thousands of innocent civilians in heinous crimes against humanity.”

He emphasized the necessity of providing justice for the victims’ families and compensating survivors and those affected, both materially and morally, in accordance with the constitution and the law. He also stressed the importance of strengthening comprehensive solidarity among all components of the Iraqi people and consolidating the foundations of a just federal state.
