Baghdad: Pakistani military and Iranian security sources reported that a ceasefire agreement has been reached between the United States and Iran, including a key provision guaranteeing freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the agreement was reached following intensive talks mediated by Oman and Pakistan, with support from Qatar. The sources quoted by RIA Novosti highlighted that the ceasefire agreement includes a full cessation of military operations between the two nations. In exchange, the Strait of Hormuz will be reopened to international navigation, ensuring the free passage of commercial and oil tankers.

The agreement also establishes a security coordination mechanism to monitor the ceasefire’s implementation and prevent future violations. This development follows a statement by Omani Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi, who expressed optimism about an imminent announcement regarding a temporary shipping corridor in the Strait of Hormuz, which could be succeeded by a permanent resolution to the issue.
