Washington: The US State Department announced on Wednesday a reward of up to $8 million for information leading to the identification or capture of Sanaullah Ghaffari, the leader of ISIS-Khorasan (ISIS-K).

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the department said in a statement: “Ghaffari, also known as Shahab al-Muhajir, was born in Afghanistan in 1994 and currently leads ISIS-Khorasan, the regional branch of the Islamic State operating in Afghanistan and neighboring countries.” The statement further noted that prior to assuming his leadership role, Ghaffari operated in Kabul and was involved in planning and coordinating armed attacks, including suicide bombings and other complex operations.

The announcement highlighted that Ghaffari has been responsible for approving ISIS-Khorasan attacks in Afghanistan and overseeing the group’s financial resources used to support its operations. The US State Department’s reward underscores the importance of capturing or identifying Ghaffari to disrupt ISIS-K activities in the region.
