Baghdad: The Ministry of Oil has dismissed claims regarding the imposition of taxes on private generator owners, affirming that fuel supply to these generators will continue without interruption.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry clarified that it has not levied any taxes on generator owners. Salim al-Rikabi, the Ministry’s spokesperson, emphasized that fuel allocations for private generators have been fully distributed. Al-Rikabi mentioned in an interview with the official newspaper that the distribution is handled by the Oil Products Distribution Company, in accordance with specified quantities and at no cost.

Al-Rikabi detailed that the allocation for private generators was initially set at 20 liters per KVA, later increased to 45 liters for July and August, to meet the demand during peak periods. He refuted reports of retroactive tax demands, stating that the General Directorate of Taxes under the Ministry of Finance is responsible for tax collection.

The spokesperson highlighted that the Ministry’s responsibility is solely the provision of fuel allocations to generators. Any oversight of the generators’ operations and accountability of contractors is managed by the provincial councils.

Concerning the potential shutdown by the generator owners’ syndicate, al-Rikabi assured that there are no disruptions in the fuel supply process. The Oil Products Distribution Company continues to deliver allocated fuel quotas to the generators as planned.
