Baghdad: The Prime Minister’s Security Advisor, Qasim al-Araji, affirmed on Saturday that dialogue is ongoing with the factions to consolidate weapons under state control. He also indicated that the withdrawal of the international coalition on September 30th does not signify a break with Washington.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Araji stated, “Dialogue continues with the factions to ensure that weapons are solely in the hands of the state.” He added, “The opportunity will be favorable after the coalition’s withdrawal, and serious dialogue will be undertaken with the factions to achieve this goal.” He noted that “the factions are currently committed to refraining from any actions against neighboring countries or within Iraq.”

He further stated, “Our relations with both Iran and the United States are good, and we strive to be a bridge for communication to reach an agreement that guarantees the rights of the entire region.” Al-Araji asserted that “the presence of Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) forces on Iraqi soil is illegitimate, and we are working with the Turkish side to resolve the issue.”

He indicated that “the circumstances that led to the presence of Turkish forces on Iraqi soil will end with the resolution of the PKK issue.” He emphasized, “We are determined to resolve all issues that cause harm to Iraq and neighboring countries.” Al-Araji continued, “Iran is a friend of ours, and so is America, but our interests come first, and we have the ability to persuade the parties to serve our interests.”

He emphasized that “the withdrawal of the international coalition on September 30 does not mean a break with Washington, and we will continue to exchange security information.”
