Ankara: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan discussed regional and bilateral issues on Saturday with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, sources at the Turkish Foreign Ministry reported that Fidan addressed several regional and bilateral issues during two separate phone calls with his counterparts, without providing details. The discussions were part of ongoing diplomatic efforts to strengthen ties and address regional challenges.

The Qatari Foreign Ministry stated that the calls reviewed cooperation between the two countries and ways to support and strengthen it, as well as the latest regional developments. The focus was on diplomatic efforts and joint coordination to de-escalate tensions and enhance security and stability in the region. The statement quoted the Qatari Prime Minister as affirming Qatar’s support for all diplomatic efforts and endeavors aimed at a solution that guarantees freedom of navigation and paves the way for a comprehensive agreement that achieves lasting peace in the region.

In related developments, last Tuesday, Oman and Iran announced an agreement on a proposed interim framework for establishing a temporary shipping corridor and implementing a project to clear the Strait of Hormuz of mines. This followed a meeting in Tehran between Omani Foreign Minister Al-Busaidi and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi. Additionally, Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding on freedom of navigation on June 18. However, its implementation has stalled due to disagreements related to the security of the Strait and arrangements for the movement of ships.
