Frieze Abu Dhabi Inaugural Edition to Showcase Global Art Heritage

Abu dhabi: “Frieze Abu Dhabi” is set to celebrate the history of art and culture with participants from 36 countries. The inaugural edition of the event will take place from November 19 to 22 at Manarat Al Saadiyat, featuring 84 galleries from 63 cities across 36 countries. This event further solidifies Abu Dhabi’s position as a global art and culture destination.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the fair is held in partnership with the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, building upon the legacy of Abu Dhabi Art. For 17 years, Abu Dhabi Art has contributed to fostering a vibrant art community, encompassing artists, galleries, collectors, and art institutions in the region.

Frieze Abu Dhabi will showcase artworks ranging from antiquity to contemporary art. Prominent regional and international galleries such as Gagossian, Peace Gallery, Thaddeus Roubax, and Timothy Taylor will participate, alongside galleries from the UAE and the wider region.

The exhibition comprises four main sections: the main section, “Spaces” dedicated to emerging galleries, “Abu Dhabi Frieze Pioneers” which explores cultural exchange across the Indian Ocean, and “Horizons” which presents solo exhibitions by artists from diverse generations and geographical regions.

The program also includes the launch of the “Abu Dhabi Frieze Creative Artist Award,” “Frieze for Sculpture,” and “Exchange,” along with a series of talks addressing art acquisition, the institutional landscape, and artistic practices.

The exhibition is being held within the growing cultural scene of the Saadiyat Island Cultural District. This area features world-class cultural institutions, including the Louvre Abu Dhabi, the Zayed National Museum, and the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, which is scheduled to open this December.
