Baghdad: Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi emphasized today, Sunday, the importance of revitalizing national industry and directed concern to locally available raw materials, given their crucial role in supporting and developing the national industry.

According to Iraqi News Agency, the Prime Minister’s Media Office stated in a statement that “Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi chaired the third session of the Industrial Coordination Council, in the presence of the Ministers of Finance, Oil, Industry and Minerals, and Electricity, as well as the Head of the Council of Advisors, a number of advisors and directors general, and the Head of the Iraqi Federation of Industries.”

The Prime Minister stressed “the importance of revitalizing national industry, as it represents the backbone of the economy,” noting that “achieving the country’s industrial identity requires border control, the implementation of the ASYCUDA tracking system, and the pre-payment of taxes and customs duties, measures which have already been initiated.”

The Prime Minister, according to the statement, directed that attention be given to locally available raw materials, given their importance in supporting and developing national industry and enhancing its competitiveness.

The Council adopted a number of recommendations and measures aimed at supporting and developing the industrial sector and strengthening its contribution to the national economy. It was decided to implement Industrial Coordination Council Resolution No. 29 of 2025, and the Prime Minister directed all governorates to prepare, provide, and allocate a 1,000-dunam plot of land for industrial projects nominated by the Directorate General for Industrial Development for implementation in the respective governorate.

It was also decided to prohibit the export of raw materials comprising copper and its alloys, aluminum, lead, and iron alloys, including all their forms and scrap.
