Prime Minister Al-Zaidi Announces Major Housing Initiative with One Million Free Plots

Baghdad:Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi has outlined a significant government initiative to distribute one million free, serviced residential plots of land by the end of next year. This move is part of a broader plan to enhance homeownership opportunities and facilitate the development of new cities with modern urban planning standards.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Zaidi revealed during a televised interview that the project aims to provide housing for approximately six million citizens by granting these plots with official title deeds to families who currently do not own any real estate. The initiative is designed to address housing needs for property-less families.

The government plans to implement an electronic platform to verify the data of applicants, ensuring that they do not already possess land or real estate. This system is intended to streamline the application process and ensure that the land is allocated to eligible individuals in accordance with the project’s regulations.

Al-Zaidi emphasized that the government’s strategy extends beyond merely distributing land, as it includes the development of integrated, modern cities. These cities are expected to feature lakes, golf courses, and advanced facilities, meeting urban planning requirements and offering a suitable residential and service-oriented environment.

For the financing of these new city developments, Al-Zaidi mentioned that the Generations Fund will be responsible for developing the land and investing the proceeds from its sale. This approach is intended to leverage both the land and investment returns for the execution of urban development projects.
