Baghdad: Minister of Electricity, Ali Saadi Wahib, and the new Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Iraq, Xiang Bo, discussed strengthening cooperation in the energy sector on Sunday.

According to Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry stated in a press release that “Minister of Electricity, Ali Saadi Wahib, received the new Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Iraq, Xiang Bo, at the Ministry headquarters on Sunday, offering him congratulations on assuming his new post.”

During the meeting, they discussed completing the work of Chinese companies operating in Iraq’s electricity sector and proceeding with the implementation of the Prime Minister’s directives regarding contracting with specialized Chinese manufacturers to construct steam and solar power plants.

“Both sides emphasized the importance of expanding cooperation in the energy sector and utilizing the expertise and technical capabilities of Chinese companies in implementing electricity projects, which will contribute to developing the electricity grid and enhancing its capacity,” according to the statement.

For his part, the Chinese ambassador expressed his country’s keenness to continue cooperation with Iraq and support the implementation of electrical projects, which will enhance the strategic partnership between the two countries in the energy sector.
