Baghdad: The General Directorate of Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Affairs at the Ministry of Interior announced its activities during 2026 on Sunday. Brigadier General Abbas al-Bahadli, Director of Media for the Directorate, provided a comprehensive overview of the year’s operations and achievements in a press release.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Directorate successfully seized two tons and 370 kilograms of narcotics over the course of the year. The crackdown led to the conviction of 4,644 individuals involved in narcotics and psychotropic substance cases, with 69 receiving death sentences and 267 sentenced to life imprisonment.

Brigadier General al-Bahadli elaborated on the operations, highlighting the dismantling of 304 local networks and 54 international networks. The Directorate also conducted 21 operations abroad, established six contact points, and issued 43 international arrest warrants.

In terms of confrontations, the Directorate was involved in 32 clashes, resulting in the death of one member and injuries to 31 others. Meanwhile, three drug traffickers were killed, and 23 were injured during these operations.
