Erbil: The Ministry of Higher Education in the Kurdistan Region has announced that the 2026-2027 academic year will commence on September 1st and conclude on June 30th, 2027. Additionally, the ministry has outlined the guidelines for studies and examinations at the region’s universities.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the ministry stated, “The academic calendar for the 2026-2027 academic year begins on September 1, 2026, and ends on June 30, 2027.” The ministry emphasized the standardization of the academic calendar based on specific regulations applicable to universities, colleges, and institutes that operate under either an annual or semester-based academic system.
The ministry further clarified that the annual academic system is required to span at least 30 weeks, whereas the semester system mandates a minimum duration of 15 weeks. Notably, this timeline excludes examination days and official holidays, ensuring that the academic periods focus solely on instructional time.
