Berlin: Borussia Dortmund began their campaign in the German Football League with a 2-0 victory over their guest Hamburg on Saturday, in the first round of the competition. Dortmund took an early lead through Guinean striker Serhou Guirassy in the ninth minute, before Yannis Constantilias added a second for the home side in the first minute of first-half stoppage time.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Dortmund had lost to Bayern Munich 2-1 in the Franz Beckenbauer Super Cup last Saturday, but bounced back with this victory, which boosts morale ahead of their German Cup match against fifth-division side Hamburger SV on Tuesday.

In other matches, newly promoted Elversberg pulled off a major upset, defeating 2024 champions Bayer Leverkusen 3-2. Elversberg took an early two-goal lead through Lukas Petkow and Cole Kampl in the eighth and ninth minutes, respectively, before David Mokoa sealed the victory with a third goal in the first minute of the second half.

Bayer Leverkusen’s goals were scored by Patrik Schick in the 77th minute and Christian Covan in the first minute of stoppage time. RB Leipzig also defeated Borussia M¶nchengladbach 3-0, Union Berlin drew 3-3 with Eintracht Frankfurt, Cologne beat Hoffenheim 3-2, and Mainz drew 0-0 with newly promoted Paderborn.
