Baghdad: Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi has directed the government to dedicate itself to direct and collective responsibility to enhance oversight of government performance.
According to Iraqi News Agency, the General Secretariat of the Cabinet stated in a press release that Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi has directed all ministries to ensure that the relevant minister is directly responsible for the overall performance of the ministry, as well as for the undersecretaries and directors general. This responsibility is collective and aims to strengthen oversight, prevent any shortcomings in job duties, guarantee the smooth and regular functioning of public services, ensure the proper application of laws, and achieve efficiency and effectiveness in performance, thus protecting public funds in accordance with the requirements of the public interest.
The Department of Cabinet Affairs and Committees at the General Secretariat of the Cabinet explained that this directive was issued during the sixteenth regular session of the Cabinet, held on August 24, 2026, based on the principle that public service is a national duty and a social service, with the aim of serving the public interest and citizens in accordance with applicable legal regulations.
It added that the relevant minister is the highest authority in the ministry and is responsible for implementing its policies and tasks, and for monitoring and supervising its activities and events and ensuring its good performance in accordance with the legislation.
