Minister of Transport Engages World Bank and AIIB for Project Financing


Baghdad: The Minister of Transport, Wahab al-Hassani, held significant discussions with delegations from the World Bank and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) at the ministry headquarters. These meetings focused on securing support and financing for vital projects within the ministry’s jurisdiction.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Hassani explored opportunities with the two financial institutions to fund a variety of transport initiatives. The discussions centered on enhancing infrastructure across several sectors, including railways, ports, airports, and roads. These efforts aim to fast-track the implementation of critical projects and boost the efficiency of Iraq’s transport system, aligning with the objectives of the Development Road Project.



During the meetings, Minister al-Hassani reiterated the ministry’s dedication to fostering partnerships and cooperation. He highlighted the necessity of obtaining appropriate funding to advance priority projects. In response, representatives from the World Bank and AIIB expressed their willingness to investigate potential financing avenues for the ministry’s projects, adhering to established procedures and comprehensive studies.
