Kathmandu: The death toll from the Himalayan floods has exceeded 1,000, with Nepal facing the brunt of the disaster. The Nepalese disaster management agency announced Tuesday that 987 individuals have lost their lives in Nepal alone, while Chinese authorities reported 16 deaths in China, bringing the preliminary total to 1,003.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the number of missing persons has reached 4,462, with 3,916 reported missing within Nepalese territory and 546 in the Chinese-administered region of Tibet. The floods, which have wrought significant destruction, were triggered by the collapse of ice sections in the highlands, resulting in an avalanche. This information was confirmed by experts from the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development, based in Kathmandu.

The disaster originated on August 26 in a challenging mountainous region straddling the Nepalese-Chinese border. The impact of these floods has been severe, and rescue operations continue as authorities strive to manage the crisis.
