Baghdad: Muayad Al-Lami, the head of the Arab Journalists Union and First Deputy Head of the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate, has underscored the crucial role that media must play in supporting the government’s anti-corruption initiatives. His remarks were made during a recent dialogue seminar titled “The Code of Ethics for Journalistic Work,” organized by the Federal Integrity Commission in collaboration with the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Lami highlighted that the government, led by Prime Minister Ali al-Zubaidi, has embarked on a campaign focused on combating corruption and targeting corrupt individuals. Al-Lami emphasized the media’s responsibility in ensuring the success of this campaign, stressing the importance of ethical journalism in driving the initiative forward.

In addition to Al-Lami’s comments, Khalid Jassim, the head of the Journalists Syndicate, reiterated the longstanding relationship between the syndicate and the Federal Integrity Commission, dating back to 2010. He noted that numerous seminars and workshops for journalists have been held in collaboration with the commission, all aimed at supporting the Integrity Commission’s campaign to eliminate corruption.

Ali Qasim Hammoud, Director General of the Education and Public Relations Department at the Integrity Commission, announced the formal signing of a code of ethics between the commission and the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate. The code mandates that media institutions maintain absolute integrity, resist any corrupt temptations, and ensure accurate reporting. Furthermore, it requires media entities to protect whistleblowers by safeguarding their information, which is pivotal for the success of the anti-corruption campaign.
