Baghdad: The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit wrapped up in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, with the adoption of the “Bishkek Declaration” and the signing of 28 documents addressing security, economy, and development.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting was chaired by Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov and held under the theme “25 Years of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation: Together for Peace, Development, and Sustainable Prosperity.” It witnessed the participation of heads of state and government from the member countries. The “Bishkek Declaration of the 25th Anniversary” was adopted, marking a significant milestone in the organization’s history. This declaration underscores the parties’ commitments to regional security, economic cooperation, sustainable development, and a shared vision for the future.

Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Jeenbek Kolobayev highlighted that the summit resulted in the signing of 28 documents, focusing on five main areas. He acknowledged the commendation from member states for Kyrgyzstan’s leadership, which has contributed to strengthening the organization’s international standing and expanding practical cooperation among its members.

Kolobayev emphasized that the “Bishkek Declaration” is the summit’s most significant political outcome. It includes the signing of the “Protocol on Amendments and Additions to the SCO Charter,” aimed at institutional reform. Additionally, one of the key developments announced is the establishment of a “Center for Combating Transnational Organized Crime” in Bishkek.

The agreements signed during the summit cover a wide range of areas, including combating climate change, promoting green development, advancing artificial intelligence technologies, and establishing logistics centers. Other areas of focus include international information security, combating synthetic drugs, strengthening energy systems, disaster relief, and modernizing the legal framework for combating crime.

Kolobayev concluded by announcing that Pakistan will host the next SCO summit. The SCO consists of Russia and China, with Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, India, Pakistan, Iran, and Belarus as participating countries. Afghanistan and Mongolia hold observer status, while 15 countries, including Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Egypt, are dialogue partners.
