Baghdad: President Nizar Amidi affirmed today, Thursday, that uncovering the fate of the victims of mass graves is a national and humanitarian duty. The Presidential Media Office stated in a press release received by Iraqi News Agency (INA) that “President Nizar Amidi received today, at the Peace Palace in Baghdad, the national team specializing in opening mass graves.”

According to Iraqi News Agency, Amidi emphasized that “uncovering the fate of the victims of mass graves is a national and humanitarian duty,” stressing “the importance of continuing efforts aimed at opening the graves, exhuming the remains, identifying the victims, and handing them over to their families, thus providing justice for the families who are still waiting to learn the fate of their loved ones, as well as documenting the crimes committed against the Iraqi people and preserving national memory.”

The President listened to “a presentation on the most prominent work completed by the team and the challenges it faces,” indicating “the necessity of providing the necessary support and facilitating the procedures related to opening the mass graves and completing the identification of remains in accordance with legal and scientific principles.”
