Maysan: A five-day-old baby has remarkably survived a severe brain hemorrhage following an emergency surgical procedure performed at Al-Zahrawi Surgical Hospital in Maysan.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the specialized medical team at the hospital successfully carried out a complex operation to drain the life-threatening hemorrhage. Dr. Mu’tamad Hanoun Al-Nassiri, the hospital director, shared that the infant had been transferred from the Children’s Hospital after experiencing an epileptic seizure, along with challenges in movement and feeding. Medical evaluations uncovered bleeding within the brain tissue and a subdural hemorrhage.

The medical team detailed that the surgical procedure involved halting and draining the brain hemorrhage while alleviating the intracranial pressure caused by the blood accumulation. This urgent intervention was deemed necessary due to the critical nature of the infant’s condition and young age.

Dr. Al-Nassiri confirmed the success of the operation, noting that the bleeding was effectively managed and drained, resulting in the cessation of epileptic seizures and significant improvement in the infant’s movement and feeding ability. He assured that the infant’s condition is currently stable and he remains under medical observation.
