Basra: The Basra local government discussed with an Iranian delegation the progress and completion rates of the railway link project between Iraq and Iran.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Basra government delegation included the head of the provincial council, Khalaf al-Badran, the deputy governor of Basra, Hassan Thahir al-Najjar, the head of the provincial council’s security committee, Aqeel al-Fariji, and a number of security and economic officials, as well as representatives from the private sector. The Iranian side included the head of the parliamentary economic committee, Shams al-Din Hosseini, and a number of officials.

Deputy Governor Hassan al-Najjar told the Iraqi National News Agency (NINA): “The meeting discussed expediting the completion of the railway link project between Basra and Khorramshahr, where 70% of the bridge connecting the two banks of the Shatt al-Arab has been completed, and mines have been cleared along a 16-kilometer stretch.”

Al-Najjar emphasized: “Since the project’s inception, the Basra local government has strived to overcome obstacles to its completion, particularly by resolving conflicts, compensating those affected, and facilitating the work of the implementing company. It will continue its support for the completion of this project.”
