Baghdad: Karkh police forces apprehended members of a so-called “tribal council” and seized a Kalashnikov rifle following a brawl and shooting in the Shula district of Baghdad.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement from the Ministry of Interior detailed that police detachments and the Shula emergency response unit arrested all parties involved in a brawl and shooting incident that occurred in the Shula/Salamiyat area. This response was initiated after receiving a report via the 911 emergency hotline at 1:30 AM.

The statement from the Ministry further explained that a security team was formed and immediately dispatched to the scene. The team engaged in gathering information and reviewing surveillance camera footage, which revealed that two individuals arrived in the area on a motorcycle. One of them made threatening remarks and called for what is known as ‘tribal reconciliation.’

In the course of the incident, the owner of one of the houses fired shots into the air from his rooftop. Security forces swiftly apprehended him and seized the weapon used, identified as a Kalashnikov rifle.

The security forces continued their efforts by pursuing and arresting all those who arrived at the scene. It was determined that the incident was rooted in a family dispute. Legal procedures were executed against all parties, and they were referred to the appropriate authorities in accordance with the law.
