Interior Ministry: Attempt to Kidnap a Citizen Thwarted, 6 Suspects Arrested in Baghdad


Baghdad: The Ministry of Interior announced the thwarting of an attempted kidnapping of a citizen and the arrest of six suspects in Baghdad.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, a ministry statement indicated that “the Baghdad Rusafa Police Command, through the Baghdad al-Jadida Anti-Crime Department, patrols from the 7th Rusafa Emergency Regiment, and patrol units, in cooperation with the Intelligence Division, managed to foil an attempted kidnapping of a citizen and arrest the kidnappers in an area on the Rusafa side of the city.”



The statement added that “the operation was carried out after receiving a report from a citizen. The force proceeded to their location and arrested six suspects involved in the incident. They were traveling in two vehicles. During the investigation, one of the suspects confessed to contacting the complainant and luring him with the aim of carrying out the kidnapping attempt. A pistol was found in their possession.”



The statement concluded by noting that “they have been detained pending the necessary legal procedures.”
