Baghdad: The Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Titon Mitra, affirmed on Saturday that the UNDP is working with the Iraqi government on a number of issues, including climate, the environment, climate change, combating corruption, economic diversification, and resolving the issue of internally displaced persons (IDPs).

According to Iraqi News Agency, Mitra stated, “The UNDP is working, in accordance with the priorities of the new government, on various issues, including climate, the environment, and climate change, as well as the government’s priority of combating corruption. We are working with the Iraqi Integrity Commission to support its efforts in fighting corruption.”

He added that there are ongoing projects with the government to diversify the economy and reduce reliance on oil revenues as the sole source of income for the state. Efforts are underway with the government to address this dependency. Additionally, the issue of IDPs must be resolved to enable the country to progress on the path of development. The UNDP is collaborating with Iraq to address the IDP issue.
