Erbil: An Iranian delegation is in Kurdistan to promote land tourism. An Iranian delegation met with officials in the Kurdistan Region to discuss boosting overland tourism.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, a specialized delegation from the Iranian Center for Tourism and Land Transport conducted a field visit to the border crossings of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. The visit included a series of consultations and technical negotiations aimed at facilitating overland transport, clarifying customs protocols, and developing frameworks for tourism and executive cooperation between Tehran and Erbil. The agency added that the visit focused on analyzing obstacles facing the movement of vehicles and passengers, organizing border operations, and creating a suitable investment and operational environment for developing overland tourism between the two countries, with a primary emphasis on activating border diplomacy and strengthening institutional coordination.
The delegation’s agenda included high-level meetings with consular authorities, customs officials, and highway administrations in the Kurdistan Region. An expanded meeting was also held, bringing together the Iranian Consul General in Erbil, the Director General of Regional Customs, and directors of border crossings to discuss logistical challenges related to transportation and vehicle crossing procedures.
The delegation emphasized the importance of establishing transparent and integrated operational mechanisms for officials and executive agents at border crossings. This includes familiarizing them with the advantages and procedures of international documents issued by the Land Transport Coordination Center, ensuring no procedural conflicts arise and facilitating the movement of travelers and drivers.
The meetings also addressed prospects for cooperation with local entities in Iraq, resulting in the signing of operational agreements aimed at strengthening joint efforts in issuing international documents. These agreements are expected to expand the range of services offered by the Land Transport and Tourism Center, as well as open new avenues for commercial and operational cooperation.
