Manchester: Norwegian striker Erling Haaland led Manchester City to their third consecutive victory in the English Premier League, defeating Coventry City 1-0 at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday in the third round of the competition. With this win, Manchester City maintained their perfect start, reaching 9 points and temporarily topping the league table, pending the Arsenal-Chelsea match scheduled for Sunday. Coventry City remained at the bottom of the table with zero points.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the home side dominated the match from the outset, which also saw the debut of Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernandez for Manchester City, following his transfer from Chelsea. Coventry almost surprised their hosts with an early goal in the sixth minute after a mistake by Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who failed to deal with a pass from Uzbek defender Abdulkadir Khusanov. However, Donnarumma recovered and cleared the ball with difficulty before it crossed the goal line.
Just two minutes later, Nigerian Taiwo Awoniyi squandered a golden opportunity to open the scoring for Coventry.
