Baghdad: Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz of Spain continued his US Open title defense with a straight-sets victory over China’s Yibing Wu. The world number three dominated the first set 6-3, maintained his advantage in the second 6-4, and sealed the match with a 6-1 win in the third.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Alcaraz will now face American Tommy Paul in the round of 16. Paul defeated Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik 6-4, 3-6, 6-7, 6-1, 6-3 in the third round. Meanwhile, Russia’s Daniil Medvedev also advanced to the round of 16 with a straight-sets victory over France’s Arthur Rinderknech.

The Russian player dominated the first set, winning it 6-4, and repeated his success in the second set, securing it by the same score. He continued his control of the match by winning the third set 6-4 as well.
