Baghdad: The Ministry of Oil denied on Saturday reports of gasoline exports following the commissioning of the FCC catalytic cracking unit. The ministry clarified that it currently exports fuel oil and naphtha, and has previously exported a shipment of jet fuel and sulfur.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Ministry spokesman Salim al-Rikabi stated, “We deny what some news agencies have reported, that the ministry will export gasoline upon commissioning the FCC unit.”

He added, “Iraq will achieve self-sufficiency in petroleum products once the aforementioned unit is operational. Furthermore, Iraq could become an exporter of some petroleum products after the completion of expansion projects at other refineries.”

He emphasized that “this is what the ministry is striving for and planning to achieve, aiming to transform Iraq from an importer to an exporter of petroleum products, while noting that the ministry currently exports fuel oil and naphtha, and has previously exported a shipment of jet fuel and sulfur.”

According to the statement, Al-Rikabi called on the media to “exercise accuracy in reporting information and to ensure that statements are conveyed in a way that accurately reflects their true meaning.”
