Washington: US President Donald Trump stated that the 2026 FIFA World Cup generated over $18 billion for the US economy and contributed to creating more than 160,000 jobs.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Trump wrote on Truth Social: “What an extraordinary summer of travel in the United States! Americans traveled nearly 300 billion miles, national parks welcomed 78 million visitors, and millions more took to the skies.”

He added, “The FIFA World Cup alone generated over $18 billion for the US economy and supported over 160,000 jobs! Travel and tourism mean jobs, investment, and billions of dollars flowing into American businesses and communities.” He concluded, “We are cutting red tape, modernizing air travel, and making it easier to visit and do business in the United States. America is open for business, and the best is yet to come!”

The 2026 World Cup was held in the United States, Mexico, and Canada between June 11 and July 19, and featured 48 teams for the first time. FIFA President Gianni Infantino had previously stated that the federation might consider expanding the World Cup to 64 teams.

In the 2026 World Cup final, Spain defeated Argentina 1-0. Ferran Torres, then playing for Barcelona, scored the only goal of the match in the 106th minute before transferring to Paris Saint-Germain after the tournament.
