Dhi qar: The Ministry of Electricity announced today the opening of two secondary power stations and their entry into service in Dhi Qar Governorate, each with a design capacity of 31.5 MVA.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the initiative was undertaken in line with directives from the Minister of Electricity, Ali Saadi Wahib. The Director General of the Southern Electricity Distribution Company, Nash’at Kadhim Yassin, inaugurated the Al-Sakheen and Al-Majri secondary substations, which are of the E-House type, during his field visit to Dhi Qar Governorate. He oversaw the commissioning on-site, alongside Muhammad Faisal Ruwaidhi, the Director of the Dhi Qar Electricity Distribution Branch, and several engineering and technical staff, as well as local dignitaries.

The Director General highlighted that the operation of these two substations is a significant enhancement to the distribution system in the governorate. These new power sources aim to address existing bottlenecks, redistribute loads, and improve the efficiency and operational flexibility of the network. Each substation is equipped with seven feeders and has a design capacity of 31.5 MVA.

He further explained that the Al-Sakheen substation is expected to bolster the power supply to areas such as Al-Farihi, Al-Zuhairiya, Al-Sharif, Al-Rashid, and Al-Aleemeen in the governorate’s center. Meanwhile, the Al-Majri substation will enhance electricity delivery to Al-Majri, Al-Khawaf, Al-Mazari’, and Al-Bank Al-Gharbi areas in the Al-Fahoud District.

The statement also noted that the Director General conducted a field visit to ensure the successful connection of the two stations to the grid. He reviewed the outcomes of technical tests and assessed the readiness of both stations and feeders. He instructed the engineering and technical team to finalize the remaining operational tasks, continue maintenance efforts, and effectively utilize the new capacities to improve grid efficiency and ensure an uninterrupted power supply in Dhi Qar Governorate.
