Jakarta: Indonesia has reopened Jakarta’s main airport and four other airports after closures caused by volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau. Indonesian Transportation Minister Dudi Purwajandi announced the reopening on Tuesday, bringing relief to travelers and local communities affected by the disruption.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the eruption of Anak Krakatau occurred early on Sunday, September 6, leading to the suspension of hundreds of flights at Jakarta’s main airport. Volcanic ash spread across parts of western Indonesia, impacting school activities and local fishing operations. The ash and dust reached areas including the capital, Jakarta, and Lampung province on Sumatra island’s southern tip.

Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, a major hub in the region, had suspended flights until 9:30 AM local time (2:30 AM GMT) as a precautionary measure. The Indonesian Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation monitored the ash dispersal, ensuring safety measures were in place until conditions improved.
