Baghdad: Former MP Kazem al-Sayyadi has been released following a decision by the Iraqi judiciary after the Prime Minister withdrew the lawsuit filed against him.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the release comes after the Prime Minister decided to drop the charges that led to al-Sayyadi’s arrest last month. The arrest, which occurred on the 17th of last month, was based on accusations of extortion under judicial orders from the Supreme Judicial Council.
The case against al-Sayyadi had drawn significant attention due to his previous role as a member of parliament. The withdrawal of the lawsuit by the Prime Minister signifies a resolution to the legal proceedings initiated against him.
