Madrid: The President of the Iraqi National Olympic Committee, Aqeel Muften, recently visited the Iraqi Embassy in Madrid to discuss strengthening sports cooperation with Spain. He was accompanied by the Committee’s Secretary-General, Haitham Abdul Hamid, and the President’s Advisor, Hawar Mulla Mohammed.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Olympic Committee highlighted in a press release that Ambassador Ali Shamran expressed the embassy’s readiness to offer necessary support and full coordination with the Spanish Olympic Committee and all relevant sports institutions. This initiative is aimed at supporting the advancement of sports in Iraq.
Ambassador Shamran emphasized the strong relations between the Iraqi Embassy and the Spanish Football Federation, as well as most sports clubs. He noted the continuous efforts underway to explore all avenues that could contribute to the development of Iraqi sports.
During the meeting, Muften provided an overview of the Iraqi Olympic delegation’s visit to Spain and its outcomes. A key highlight was the revival and activation of the joint sports memorandum of understanding between the Iraqi and Spanish Olympic Committees. This memorandum is expected to enhance sports cooperation and facilitate the exchange of expertise between the two countries.
Muften commended the significant role played by the Iraqi Embassy in supporting visiting Iraqi sports teams and delegations. He stressed the importance of maintaining joint efforts and strengthening coordination between the Olympic Committee and the Embassy to further the progress of Iraqi sports and national teams.
